Laboratory Setups
Basic Purpose of Laboratory:
Testing of processed food products to meet food quality and safety standards
prior to distribution to consumers.
Range and Types of Samples:
The complete range of raw materials, process water, packaging materials
and finished food products as well as the sanitary testing of the mechanical
equipment used in the manufacturing process.
Scope of Work and Supply:
Identification of the analytical procedures to be used; determination
of the instruments, equipment, and laboratory information management systems
specifications, and consumables, supplies, spare parts required for the
operation of a fully functioning Processed Food Testing Laboratory. Thermo's
scope can include project management, procurement, delivery, installation,
and commissioning, training, warranty and product support, and preventive
maintenance agreements to provide a fully functioning laboratory on a
"turnkey" basis.
Identification of Analytical Methods to be used and recognized
by recognized authorities:
Based on BIS Standards & Standards mentioned in well known renowned books
prevalent in the market & used by Esteemed Food Industries as incorporated
in the "Official Methods of Analysis"
Sampling Techniques, Frequencies and Handling:
Proposal covers the identification and implementation of industry recognized
techniques for the proper taking of samples for analysis, estimations
of required sampling frequency for target confidence levels and the proper
temporary/long-term storage conditions of retention samples based on the
typical shelf-life of the processed food products.
Recommended Instrument / Equipment Lists:
Develop and specify instruments, equipment lists based on the selected
analytical testing methods for the types of processed food product samples
to be analyzed, includes: standard instruments for physical, microbiological
and chemical testing, standard lab equipment, lab information management
systems, supplies and consumables.
Laboratory Layout:
Layout and design of laboratory furniture and equipment placement that
takes into consideration the space available (or defining the space),
sample flow, utility requirements and distribution, special requirements
for hazardous sample handling, storage, sterilization, sample retention,
and office/clerical/supervisory office space. Mobile, or field self-contained
testing units are also considered and planned.
TYPES OF TESTING
Chemical
QTE provides extensive chemical analyses and testing capabilities through
a global network of analytical laboratories. Chemical analysis includes
routine and high-end testing of products, materials and additives to trace
levels. Chemical labs measure unknowns, identify quality problems, identify
root cause quality issues, screen raw materials, characterize trace impurities
and contamination, chemical compounds and much more.
Microbiology
In a food processing plant, microbiological testing is an essential factor
to assure and document the best possible safety and quality of consumer
products. An increased focus on production economy, product quality, consumer
safety and time to market, represents the true challenge food producers
need to meet. Microbiological testing at various points of the production
is an essential QC factor. It helps to assure and document the best possible
safety and quality of the products and to maintain customer confidence.
